Mazda3 wont start. Help!!!?

The check engine light came on about a month ago. Being the genius I am I ignored the warning and continued on with my jolly day. I went to start the car and much to my dismay no start. You can turn the key over then there ia a series of rapid clicks. The lights turn on fine, my windshield wipers are at normal speed. I am fairly certain it is not the battery or the connection. What are other possibilities?
